Giulietta Laki

With a multidisciplinary background in anthropology (Università di Bologna), political science (ULB) and a postgraduate training in urban planning (ULB/Sint-Lucas Architectuur), Giulietta Laki co-founded in 2018 the action-research collective Urban Species and is currently post-doc researcher at FNRS (Césir/Humen UCLouvain and Sasha/Louise ULB).

Building on a material & sensitive approach to citizen participation developed in her PhD (2018), her work focuses on urban environments and a variety of practices and entities that inhabit them. Experimenting forms of collaborative knowledge production at the crossroads between ethnography, design and artistic methods, she has gradually turned towards co-creative research with various activist collectives and associations. From October 2025 to March 2026, she’s been a visiting scholar at the Centre d’Etudes des Mouvements Sociaux of EHESS in Paris. She’s member of the board of GT Visual Methods of the AISLF, and participates actively in the network Crafting Methods in Design Research (ULB/PUCV, Chile). For her doctoral thesis (funded by the FNRS), she received the Gérard Deledalle Prize (2019) and, for her postdoctoral project, the Seal of Excellence from the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (2025 and 2026).
