Researchers navigating and steering Urban Living Labs. Motivations, methods and challenges in the quest for knowledge coproduction.
Doctoral seminar part of the Action Blanche (ULB funded) research project: Navigating or steering Living Labs? The critical role of researchers in knowledge coproduction for climate change adaptation
The seminar is based on reflections developed during an exploratory research conducted at the Louise Research Centre, addressing the challenges faced by researchers in their transdisciplinary work within Urban Living Labs. At the core of their challenges lies the quest for knowledge co-production—a dynamic process that integrates scientific understanding with social, cultural, and political contexts to create usable knowledge for decision-making. In practice, researchers play a key role in Urban Living Labs, leading practical experiments and providing data and technical advice. They also help build relationships and confidence among stakeholders, and improve local governments' capacity to implement adaptation solutions. However, there is a need for a deeper understanding and practical tools to support the active roles of researchers in meaningful knowledge co-production. We aim to introduce young researchers to this topic and provide them with tools and advice. The seminar will present the results of the project and propose an exercise for the participants. Invited guests from Sapienza University of Rome, who have extensive experience in this field, will introduce their work and guide our interactions.
Lunch is offered.
